Wanted: Business Manager for the Concordia News

We are looking for a community member to fill the position of Business Manager at Concordia News. This publication is delivered to over 6,000 households and businesses monthly, and is the main method of communication used by our neighborhood association. This volunteer position works closely with our Editor/layout designer, and handles all the ad coordination with local businesses and revenue for the paper.

If you like working with people and building relationships in the community, while increasing your skills, this could be the place for you! Kitchen Commons matches kitchen resources with community need, making it affordable and practical to cook healthy food, advocating for food justice, & putting the dream of a food business in reach of low-income entrepreneurs. Annual CNA Clean-Up on Saturday, June 1st from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the PCC Workforce Training Center on NE 42nd Ave & Killingsworth!

This is the biggest fundraising event for the Concordia Neighborhood Association (CNA) and a great excuse to get rid of the junk and recyclables that you have been accumulating in your closets and garage! Please see the attached flyer for all the details.

Remember, WE WILL TAKE household waste, metal, furniture, electronics, lamps, cardboard, batteries, mattresses, clothes and other stuff!

WE WON’T TAKE: food waste, yard debris, tires, rocks, concrete, paint, oil, and other hazardous waste!

This year we will be FEATURING, “You Price It” Yard Sale for reusable household goods and we we will be collecting bicycles to reuse/recycle that are in decent condition!

SUGGESTED DONATION: $10 and Up, depending on load of vehicle. Extra $5 for electronics and batteries.

Host International Students Learning English

Ashley Krant of Concordia University is requesting hosts for  international students that are studying English at ELS Language Centers.

Each year, ELS contributes to the rich diversity of the neighborhoods surrounding Concordia by welcoming in students from all over the world.  Our host families play a vital role in acquainting students to the area and helping them bring memories of Portland back home!

Host families provide breakfast and dinner, a private bedroom, the opportunity for students to speak English, support, and insight into American culture.  Families are compensated with a stipend for increased food and utility costs.

FREE Naturescaping Workshop, Sunday May 5th Kennedy School Community Room

Naturescaping is the practice of designing (or redesigning) your landscape so that it reduces water use and decreases stormwater runoff while saving you time, money and energy. This introductory workshop introduces the core concepts of naturescaping, and also explores:

  • pollution prevention through the reduction/elimination of chemical use
  • how native plants naturally resist pests & tolerate drought conditions while attracting native birds, butterflies and other beneficial pollinators to your garden
  • basic site planning principals, and many other great natural gardening & design tips
