Have a say in what happens to the Memorial Coliseum site

Posted on December 10, 2009 by Gordon Riggs Posted in Archive, Land Use & Transportation

Do you want to have a say in what happens to the Memorial Coliseum site? Does the community need a rollercoaster? A casino? Another sports arena?

The City is moving fast to solicit plans to redevelop Memorial Coliseum and the surrounding area, yet so far the public has not had much input into any of these plans.

Vision into Action believes that the community should have the chance to submit a concept for this site that reflects community values and priorities, honors the history of the site, and benefits as many people as possible. We are therefore developing a concept for this site which will be submitted to the City and the Portland Development Commission by January 8, 2010 as part of the formal design competition.

We need your input to create a design that reflects your values! Please join Vision into Action and the Center for Intercultural Organizing for a presentation on an initial concept and a chance to provide feedback and shape this proposal as it moves forward.

Thursday, December 17th 2009

Consider Renting a living Christmas Tree this year

Posted on December 8, 2009 by Gordon Riggs Posted in Archive, Events, Land Use & Transportation, Trees

The Original Living Christmas Tree Company is a nonprofit that delivers living potted Christmas trees for holiday rental. A little after New Year’s, workers pick them up and deliver them to parks, schools and other institutions that pay $10 to have a tree planted on their property. Customers can choose from Douglas fir, Fraser fir, Nordman fir, Balsam fir, Serbian spruce and Scotch pine, which are selected from local nurseries.

CNA Holiday Party

Posted on November 22, 2009 by Gordon Riggs Posted in Archive, CNA, Events

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009
6:30 pm – 8:30 pm
Concordia University’s Hagen Center
Map of Campus

The ANNUAL CNA HOLIDAY PARTY is just around the corner, so please mark your calendars! Due to last year’s crowd at the Concordia University Fine Arts Building, we have moved the party location to an even bigger venue. Concordia University has generously donated their Hagen Center for our event so there will be plenty of room to enjoy the festivities.

The holiday party is a great way to meet new neighbors and mix and mingle with friends, old and new, in a festive and family-friendly atmosphere. This year we are delighted to be serving homemade Mexican food provided by Chef Jose Hernandez, as well as food from “north of the border.” The CNA will also be providing nonalcoholic beverages. Additionally, we will be having a cookie decoration station for children so they can create their own tasty treats.

A holiday party would not be complete without music! This year, we are pleased to announce that we will have the Concordia University Brass Ensemble under the direction of William Kuhn, Ed.D. performing festive songs for our listening pleasure. They will be performing a variety of holiday selections both in traditional and in jazz style. We hope to see you all there for this fun end-of-the-year event!
