Solarize Northeast deadline nears – March 21, 2012
Do you live in Northeast Portland and are you thinking about adding a solar electric system to your home? Now is your chance! Northeast Coalition of Neighbors is running its second Solarize NE group purchase campaign. Workshops are going on now and registration is open until May 15.
This effort is designed to simplify the process of residential solar installation and bring cost reductions through volume purchasing to local area neighbors.
Free workshops make the process easy to understand by covering topics such as: deciding on system size, explaining the costs, providing financing opportunities, and explaining net metering through the utility. Sign up today, or attend a local workshop to learn how to get started.

Take your tree identification skills to the next level and learn to identify trees without their leaves. Learn to recognize up to twenty different genera of trees by clues in bud and leaf scars, lenticels, terminal buds, bark color and texture, and more. The workshop will includes a presentation, manual, and field session with Hoyt Arboretum Curator Martin Nicholson.
Winter Tree Identification is FREE and open to the public.

Concordia University, NE Coalition of Neighborhoods Host Mayoral and City Council Candidates Forums
Please join NECN and Concordia University for two forums with the 2012 Mayoral and City Council candidates. The first forum will be held on:
Tuesday, February 28th at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30p.m.
Concordia University on the 2nd floor of the Hagen Campus Center.
This forum will focus on community and neighborhood livability issues such as transportation, safety, jobs, and more.
The second forum will take place on Thursday, March 22nd at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. at Concordia University in the lobby of the George R. White Library & Learning Center. This second forum will focus strictly on education, from Pre-K through to higher education.

Tannenbaum Madness Opening Night: November 25, 2011
Tannenbaum Madness is a walking window tour of whimsical, wacky and artistic trees created by businesses on NE Alberta. Between NE 13th and 31st Avenues, 30 businesses are creating sights not to be missed!
Join us on Opening Night – Friday, November 25th from 4-8PM.
The street will be hopping with carolers, festive lights, gallery openings, restaurants serving some of the best food in town, and a little of the usual madness.

They offer free blood lead screenings for families at risk for lead poisoning and a variety of workshops to support the community in creating Healthy Homes, Healthy Childcare, Healthy Equity and Green Cleaning Solutions.
