Concordia University, NE Coalition of Neighborhoods Host Mayoral and City Council Candidates Forums

Please join NECN and Concordia University for two forums with the 2012 Mayoral and City Council candidates. The first forum will be held on:

Tuesday, February 28th at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30p.m.
Concordia University on the 2nd floor of the Hagen Campus Center.

This forum will focus on community and neighborhood livability issues such as transportation, safety, jobs, and more.

The second forum will take place on Thursday, March 22nd at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. at Concordia University in the lobby of the George R. White Library & Learning Center. This second forum will focus strictly on education, from Pre-K through to higher education.

Mayoral candidates: Eileen Brady, Jefferson Smith, Charlie Hales

Council candidates: Amanda Fritz, Mary Nolan, Steve Novick, Jeri Williams, Teressa Raiford, Mark White

What questions would you like to ask the candidates?

NECN is currently soliciting community feedback on questions and topics for the candidates to address. Please send questions to: info@necoalition.org or 503.823.4575.

We will be collecting and grouping all question and topic ideas and working with the event moderator to ask the candidates a wide range of questions about how they will work to promote thriving, livable communities for all.

Get Involved with Alberta Main Street

Get Involved!
Alberta Main Street depends on volunteers. If you have time and interest, we’d love to have you join our efforts. Volunteers are needed on our four committees, each with 3-4 projects. Below, please find a sample list of projects our committees will be working on in 2012. You can find more information about the committees here.

Promotions Committee
Host Earth Day District Clean Up (April) – Alberta Street Fair (August) – Holiday Promotion (December) – Manage Coop Advertising Opportunities & other Promotions

Business Development Committee
Create & Host Small Business Seminar Series – Conduct Building & Business Inventory – Develop Alberta Street Market Analysis

Organization Committee
Create and Implement a Volunteer Program – Develop & Implement Fundraising Activities & Events – Create and Implement a Communication Plan

Design Committee
Create a District Design Plan – Draft the Alberta Appendix to the Portland Main Street Design Guidelines – Design and Implement a District Improvement Project(s)

Learn the basics of how the City of Portland’s land use and development review processes work. Get hands-on experience with a land use review case study, including review of a development proposal and site plan, identification of relevant issues, and effective ways to respond to the approval criteria.

Introduction by Leah Dawkins, Southeast Uplift Neighborhood Coalition. Presented by Matt Wickstrom, Bureau of Planning and Sustainability, and Paul Leistner, Office of Neighborhood Involvement.

Refreshments will be provided. Workshop is free. Pre-registration is required. Space is limited to 40 people.

Tannenbaum Madness Opening Night: November 25, 2011

Tannenbaum Madness is a walking window tour of whimsical, wacky and artistic trees created by businesses on NE Alberta. Between NE 13th and 31st Avenues, 30 businesses are creating sights not to be missed!

Join us on Opening Night – Friday, November 25th from 4-8PM.

The street will be hopping with carolers, festive lights, gallery openings, restaurants serving some of the best food in town, and a little of the usual madness.

Alberta Main Street (1722 NE Alberta) Alberta Main Street and Art on Alberta are teaming up to create “Alberta’s DIY tree”.  Join in the ornament-making extravaganza! All of the materials will be provided. This is great for kids and adults! Help us create our Tannenbaum Madness tree! 4-8 PM.

Art on Alberta (1722 NE Alberta) Red Rover, will be festively transformed into an enormous ornament for Tannenbaum Madness. Opening Night Fri. Nov. 25, 4 – 8PM, Red Rover will be in front of Alberta Main Street (1722 NE Alberta).

Hoiday Party and Election of Concordia Neighborhood Board Tuesday, December 13th at 6:00 PM

In addition to the Annual Holiday Party and Wellness Fair which will be held at Concordia University, the Concordia Neighborhood Association will also hold elections for Board members that evening.  These events will be on Tuesday, December 13th at 6:00 t0 8:30 PM at the Student Event and Activity Center (upstairs) of the Haugen Campus Center, all are welcome.  To download a map of the campus click here.
