Neighborhood Clean-Up: Saturday, May 12

Posted on May 1, 2007 by Gordon Riggs Posted in Archive, CNA, Events

Who’s got a pile of junk in the basement/attic/side yard/alley that is always buried on your to-do list? Who has the time to load it up and haul it off to the transfer station on Highway 30 or in Oregon City? Well, now’s the time to get that done!

The annual Concordia neighborhood Clean-up will take place Saturday, May 12, from 8 AM to 12:30 PM. Due to the demolition of our usual location, Whitaker School, we are moving across 42nd Street to PCC’s workforce training center at 5600 NE 42nd Ave.

This year’s clean-up will build upon the great success of our past clean-ups and also continue to offer residents a chance to recycle a few items, rather than send them off to the landfill. We will have separate dumpsters for yard debris and scrap metal this year. Like last year, we will recycle all electronics for a nominal additional fee. All bikes an dbike parts will be donated to the Community Cycling Center. Bring what you have and we’ll recycle what we can. The rest goes off to Metro and eventually the landfill.

The things we cannot take include: hazardous waste, tires, batteries, paint, oil, rocks, concrete and large loads of dirt or sod. We will provide you with a list of the closest places that do take these things.

As in past years we are asking for a donation to the Concordia Neighborhood Association to help fund things like the Dumpsters for the Clean-up, Concordia News, our Easter Egg Hunt, concerts in Fernhill Park, and all the other great things CNA does. Unlike gas prices, our costs remain the same: $5 per car, $10 per truck/SUV/van, $15 per large truck and $20 for a huge load.

The volunteer list is growing, but we stil need more help to make this busy event a success. Volunteers are needed to help unload vehicles, control traffice flow, greet residents, sort out recyclables, pour coffee, eat bagels, etc. Please contact TJ Millbrooke at TJMillbrooke@freightliner.com or 503.460.3506 if you would like to help out.
