Each year, ELS contributes to the rich diversity of the neighborhoods surrounding Concordia by welcoming in students from all over the world.  Our host families play a vital role in acquainting students to the area and helping them bring memories of Portland back home!

Host families provide breakfast and dinner, a private bedroom, the opportunity for students to speak English, support, and insight into American culture.  Families are compensated with a stipend for increased food and utility costs.

In Portland, approximately 30 participating restaurants will donate between 20 to 30 percent of that day’s profits to the Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon (EMO) HIV Day Center (2941 NE Ainsworth St) and OHSU Partnership Project.

Summer Concerts at Fernhill Park

There’s no better way to spend a summer evening than gathering with friends and family in Fernhill Park for music, dancing and family fun. The Fernhill Concert Committee in conjunction with Portland Parks and Recreation (PP&R) has been hard at work trying to raise money for the series. We are very hopeful that this year we will be able to raise enough money to fund all five concerts. However, we need your help! Fund-raising has been off to a relatively slow start this year and we are still looking for local businesses and individuals to donate anything they can to help make the concerts happen! It doesn’t matter if you are a business owner, a family, or an individual, WE NEED YOU to help raise the money to produce another memorable concert season in Fernhill Park.
