Hollywood Senior Center open for heat relief
From their director, Amber Kern-Johnson:
Summer is finally here and this weekend looks to be a particular hot one with temperatures expected to reach 100 degrees or more. In a conference call with Multnomah County Aging & Disability Services today it was decided that the Hollywood Senior Center would open its doors this Saturday & Sunday from 3-8pm, giving older adults an air conditioned and safe space.
The Hollywood Senior Center is looking for volunteers to help pass out water & snacks and provide company to our attendees. Grocery Outlet is donating fruit, snacks and beverages for the weekend. We also need a couple volunteer drivers who are willing to transport clients to and from the Center as needed. Ride Connection is lending the Center two vans to use this weekend. If you are interested in serving as a volunteer driver please let me know so I can get the proper forms filled out.
If you can help out during this weekend, please contact me via email or by phone at 503-348-7208. Please share the news that we will be open with any senior friend, relative or neighbor you believe might be a risk of heatstroke or dehydration during this heat wave.
Thank you!
